Blue Zones

Parking in the “blue Zones” or blue parking areas in Basel. Free for a limited time.

 

The general rules are that you can park Monday to Saturday between 8:00 and 19:00. During these hours you can park only 1 hour. In the nighttime you can stay longer.

 

❌ You can’t stay longer (than the sign indicates) only moving the disc forward is not permitted! You have to leave the parking area and then park again (in new space) – otherwise you may be in for a fine!

❌ You can’t book and be assured of free spot.

❌ Parking lots are not guarded also there is pedestrian traffic around.

❌ You need to have a parking disc.

 

You may be fined for:

• Your parking disc not being completely visible (it should be displayed in the front windscreen by the driver’s seat)
• You haven’t choose correctly the time on the disc clearly
• You’ve exceed the allowed parking time
• You’ve changed the arrival time but not moved your car

White zones

Are also limited. The maximum time is indicated by road sings and it’s for free. In Basel usually maximum 30 minutes!

In some places you can park till 3 hrs for free.

Yellow Zones

These are reserved for companies and may only be used by them or their clients and guests.

Parking is prohibited.

Parking may be permitted at night or at weekends, but only if a special notice to this effect is posted.

Subscriptions

 

Resident’s parking card

Only for the blue zone in Basel or Rhine

Resident parking cards are issued for individual number plates and are valid for one year. They may also be issued for shorter shorter periods.

• CHF 284.00 for 1 year;
• CHF 549.00 for persons equally entitled;

 

Visitor’s parking card

You can park in the entire blue zone for a whole day or half a day.

• CHF 12.00 for half-day;
• CHF 20.00 for one-day;

 

Commuter’s parking card

For the blue zone with specific postcode.

The employee’s journey to work (door-to-door) by public transport must take more than 60 minutes. The commuting time is calculated on the basis of the best possible return connection. Entitlement is assessed on the basis of the longer of the two journeys.

 

Companies can obtain commuter parking cards for up to 20% of their employees. The number of commuter parking cards, per company, varies from a minimum of one to a maximum of fifty.
